About Us

Overview

The Neighborhood Co-op is a group of parents who organize and run a cooperative play-based, secular preschool in Central Austin. We have a paid teacher, and a parent host who provides a healthy snack and wholesome lunch and assists the teacher daily. We guide the teacher in setting curriculum goals, and she develops a balance of learning and free play. We are an email-based, close-knit, involved community.

Mission

The Neighborhood Co-op seeks to nurture, support, and teach our children through a combination of free play, story time, song time, art and community.

Ages

We accept children between the ages of 3-5 years. Younger children who are verbal and potty trained may also be considered on an individual basis.

Low Student to Teacher Ratio (Max 1:6)

Co-op consists of approximately 10-15 Families, with a maximum attendance of 6 children per day in the classroom. Due to the low student to teacher ratio, each child receives individual attention and care.

Cost

Currently Co-op is between $20-25 a day per child. This includes our teacher's pay, room rent and supplies.

Schedule

Our hours are from 9:15am–1:00pm Mon/Tue/Wed/Thur. You have the option of enrolling from 1 to 4 days. We currently operate in six week sessions.

Co-operative

Each parent is responsible for being a host and back-up host at least once every six weeks (twice if your child attends 2 days a week, 3 times if they attend 3 days a week, etc.). Host days are scheduled at the beginning of each six week session. Because we are a parent-run community, schedules can be flexible and fluid to meet the ever-changing needs of our families.

Location

The Neighborhood Co-op meets at a central location in Austin, TX 78757.
