We are a small yet mighty group of parents who organize and run a play-based preschool co-operative in North Central Austin. We are non-profit, and we share in the costs of renting our classroom, employing our (amazing) teacher, and purchasing our supplies. We make decisions democratically and by consensus. We participate in daily co-op life by means of assisting our teacher, and nurturing everyone's children with love, attention, and wholesome nutrition. We share responsibilities; each parent takes on a unique administrative job, and, together, we accomplish our goals. We are a close-knit, involved community, and we foster a great sense of partnership and social responsibility.
Children are sponges and soak up the way we live. They learn so much from watching what we do, and our active involvement in our co-op preschool instills co-operative values in our children, helping them to become compassionate, harmonious, responsible, contributing citizens of the world.
A preschool co-operative is a beautiful, beneficial experience for the child and their entire family. This blog post by Two-daloo perfectly sums up what makes a preschool co-op such a remarkably enriching experience for everyone involved. (http://www.two-daloo.com/cooperative-preschool/)
